I hit burn out before my career even took off.
I was dragging myself out of bed, needed 5 coffees and numerous chocolate bars to keep me going, then collapsing into bed at night, only to find that I was too wired to go to sleep.
I spent my weekends thinking about work and trying to catch up with the sleep I had lost during the week, and I missed lots of friends birthdays, family gatherings… I even slept through a wedding once!
Doctors told me I would need to leave my dream career in order to get better. But I didn’t want to do that. I didn’t want to be the girl who just gives up everything that I had been working for.
So I went and tried out alternative therapies. I went for ayurveda, acupuncture, reflexology, pranic healing, reiki, red light therapy, watsu, hypnotherapy, all sorts of tests, ... I even went on a 10-day silent meditation retreat where I had to hand in my phone at the beginning and only got it back on Day 10!
I also had help from an amazing coach. Soon enough, my energy levels soared, I started eating better and working fewer hours.
I became the leading expert in my niche, but my parents both died at the same time as I had my own children. They were both very hardworking entrepreneurs and they were constantly burned out.
My dad was an insomniac who self-medicated with alcohol, and he passed away 4 weeks before he would have become a grandfather for the first time.
I left my career and retrained in the modalities that had helped me get my energy and confidence back without relapse.
